In development
SQE2 preparation is being built.
We are writing it the same way we wrote SQE1: every point sourced from primary law, every model answer carrying its citation. It is not finished, so it is not for sale, and we would rather say that than take a deposit on it.
No card, no deposit, no launch date we cannot keep. One email when it opens.
Before you prepare for it
If you are already a qualified lawyer, you may not have to sit SQE2.
The SRA can exempt a qualified lawyer from SQE2 where their qualification and experience already meet the standard the assessment is testing. That is a different question from how to revise for it, and it is worth answering first.
- £265
- SRA application fee, whether you apply for one exemption or both
- 180 days
- SRA decision window from a fully completed application
- £3,086
- What sitting SQE2 costs instead, for bookings from October 2026
Figures published by the SRA, checked 2026-09-21. Individual SQE assessment exemption and SQE fees.
What SQE2 actually is
Worth knowing before you decide how to approach it
It is a skills assessment, not a knowledge one
SQE1 tests what you know across thirteen subjects. SQE2 tests whether you can do the job: client interviewing, advocacy, case and matter analysis, legal research, legal writing and legal drafting, across five practice areas.
It is sat over several days
Oral stations and written stations, assessed against the SRA’s day-one competence standard rather than marked against other candidates.
Most candidates who sit it pass
The SRA reported a 79% first-time pass rate for the October 2025 sitting. The harder question for most qualified lawyers is not whether they would pass, but whether they need to sit it at all.
Pass rate published by the SRA, checked 2026-09-21. SQE update, April 2026.
