Prepare a small claim

The letter before action did not work, and the online claim form is asking for "particulars of claim".

For anyone bringing or defending a claim on the small claims track who wants it prepared properly without paying for representation.

The small claims track is deliberately built so you can run a case yourself, and costs are not usually recoverable, which is exactly why paying a firm to run it rarely makes sense. That does not make the paperwork obvious.

Cases on this track are mostly won and lost on the documents, before anyone speaks. A clear statement of case, a witness statement that sticks to what you saw, and a bundle the judge can follow, beat a better argument presented badly.

What we do

  • Your particulars of claim or your defence, drafted.
  • Your witness statement, drafted from what you can actually evidence, with a statement of truth.
  • The bundle assembled, indexed and paginated the way the court expects.
  • The directions questionnaire explained, and what to ask for.
  • A short brief on the hearing: what the judge will ask, what order to say things in, and what not to argue.

What it costs

Priced by what you need: the claim alone, the witness statement, or the full bundle. Quoted before we start.

Whatever the figure is, you have it in writing before any work starts, and it does not move afterwards.

Where the limits are

  • You issue the claim, file the documents and attend the hearing. We prepare what you file.
  • We do not exercise rights of audience, so we cannot speak for you at the hearing.
  • Court fees are payable to the court and are separate from anything we charge.
  • We cannot take on a claim about a personal injury, a financial product, housing disrepair, benefits or an employment dispute. Those are regulated separately and need a firm authorised for them.
